(Mogadishu) 01 August 2019<\/strong> <\/span>– Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has renounced his United States citizenship.<\/p>\n

President Farmajo renounced his US citizenship despite the Somalia Constitution allowing for dual citizenship.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is reported that legal experts, nationalities and citizenship authorities from Somalia and US were involved in the process.<\/p>\n

”This is to officially announce that the President of The Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, has relinquished his United States citizenship.<\/p>\n

This follows the completion of the required legal and immigration processes that had been initiated after the president\u2019s election.<\/p>\n

The Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia allows for dual citizenship. The President however voluntarily filed for the renunciation.<\/p>\n

President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo has lived, received education and worked in the United States.<\/p>\n
